Biography - Shirley L. Vigil


Shirley L. Vigil received a bachelor’s of science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, her master’s of science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She worked at BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc. (which is now the new ATT) for twenty years, completing her career with ATT in 2006 as Sr. Director of Industrial Engineering and Staff Support in the Network Organization. She retired from ATT to complete her PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (her topic was A LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY ENGINEERING DESIGN TEAMS USING WHEELAN’S INTEGRATED MODEL OF GROUP DEVELOPMENT). Ms. Vigil is a Model Law Engineer (MLE), as designated by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and is a registered P.E. in Alabama. She is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Epsilon Mu Eta, and Tau Beta Pi. She and her husband, Robert, love to travel, hike, and play golf. She is the mother of two children, David and Wendy, and has five lovely grandchildren.
