
Roy M. Elam Jr. has a BA in Liberal Arts from Western Illinois University, a Master in Distance Education from the University of Maryland University College and a MS in Human Resource Education from the University of Louisville. He currently works at the Directorate of Training and Doctrine, MCOE at Ft. Benning,GA as an Instructional Systems Specialist for the New Systems Training Branch. His duties include designing learning strategies that incorporate simulations. In addition, he is the Technology Integration Cell Chief which requires him to analyze programs of instruction and determine where technology may be used to support instruction. He also conducts research on the effectiveness of games as an instruction tool. In additon, he manages a team of contractors that design and develop Mobile Applications and 3d Interactive Multimedia Instruction..
As a civilian, he has designed Interactive Multimedia Instruction for the United States Army Recruiting Command. He has been the project lead for the design, development, and implementation of the United States Army Armor School Captains’ Career Course Reserve Component, and the Maintenance Leaders’ Course.
During his twenty year career in the Army, he worked in several career fields including 11 series (Infantry) 45 series (turret mechanic) and 63 series (mechanical maintenance). He participated in peace keeping tours in the Sinai and Bosnia.
He likes to watch baseball and is a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He has been married for 25 years and has two daughters. He also is currently working toward a ED.D in Learning and Teaching with Technology at Argosy University.
