Biography - Andrea McAfee


Andrea Hoshmand McAfee received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Boston University and a Masters of Public Policy in International Security and Economic Policy from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Mrs. McAfee is a full-time professor at APU/AMU. She previously worked as a policy analyst in the Office of the Director, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office at the Department of Homeland Security. She also served as a Senior Management Analyst for Defense Group, Inc. (DGI). Prior to working for DGI, Mrs. McAfee provided research support and guidance for U.S. Agency International Development (USAID) general assistance and security strategies, as well as for specific projects on fragile and failing states, the Middle East, and Africa.

As a graduate student at the University of Maryland, Mrs. McAfee received the Captain William P. Cole Fellowship and served as a research analyst at the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland where she helped with the development of a prototype oversight system for biotechnology research. She also conducted literature reviews for the CIA Strategic Assessments Group Research Effort exploring future ideological challenges.

Mrs. McAfee has a personal interest in the well-being of military personnel and their families. As an Army spouse, she is a Family Readiness Group (FRG) Senior Adviser within the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. She co-authored, "Support for Military Families and Their Communities," which was published in the Journal of Community Psychology. Mrs. McAfee also is Vice President of Operation Paperback, which is a non-profit organization that has been sending free books to deployed U.S. troops and their families since 1999.
