John J Casey

Professor John Joseph Casey III is an honor graduate of Norwich Military Academy in Northfield, Vermont where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps in May of 1991. He holds dual Master of Science degrees in Disaster and Emergency Management from Touro University International and Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College.

Professor Casey has over 18 years experience in the United States Army specializing in leadership, operations, intelligence, strategic planning, and disaster and emergency management. He has gained considerable experience working with foreign militaries, multinational coalitions, and diverse cultures by serving 11 and a half years overseas in Germany, Turkey, and Korea as well as several NATO deployments to the Balkans. Professor Casey has participated in numerous Partnership for Peace (PfP) exercises and humanitarian MEDFLAG missions throughout Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and the African continent.

Professor Casey recently returned from Taji, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as the Senior Combat Advisor for three separate Iraqi Battalions. He was responsible for teaching, coaching, and mentoring Iraqi Army (IA) leaders and key staff officers to work together in a coordinated fashion to assist commanders define and communicate their vision and assist key staff officers in developing plans, obtaining resources, and providing execution oversight.

Professor Casey has lectured at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany, the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii and served on the U.S. Forces Korea’s SARS Crisis Action Team as the Medical Intelligence Officer during the SARS outbreak of 2002-2003. He has been published in multiple professional journals and been invited to present at numerous international conferences on intelligence issues and emergency management.

He has been presented the prestigious Thomas Knowlton Award for significant contributions to the field of Army Intelligence by the Military Intelligence Corps Association and the Order of Military Medical Merit for his contributions to emergency management and bioterrorism response by the Army Medical Department. He is also a board certified emergency manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers.
