Associate of Science in Web Publishing

The explosive growth of the Internet has generated a significant need for Web Publishing professionals and consequently for education in Web Publishing. The Associate of Science in Web Publishing Program fills this educational need; it focuses on the acquisition of the theory, principles, practices, methodologies, competencies, tools, and technologies associated with the World Wide Web and with Web Publishing.  This program is designed to produce academically sound and functionally competent Web Publishing professionals that have the necessary foundation to be productive in the IT industry. This program is market driven; it prepares learners to exploit the high demand for Web Publishing professionals in various industry sectors.

Degree Program Objectives
In addition to the institutional and general education level learning objectives, Associate of Science in Web Publishing Program also seeks the following specific learning outcomes of its graduates:

  • Assess the architecture, protocols, tools, and techniques on the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW).
  • Utilize analytical, logical, and critical thinking abilities to analyze user requirements and to design, develop, and deploy effective Web Publishing solutions.
  • Examine the foundational principles and concepts of object-oriented programming (OOP).
  • Evaluate the implementation of OOP technology in Microsoft’s .NET framework, and determine the impact of .NET IDE’s on configuration management.

Degree Program Requirements
Required Course - 3 semester hours

General Education Requirements (38 semester hours)
English Composition - 6 semester hours

Social Sciences - 6 semester hours

Science - 8 semester hours including the required 1 hour labs

Mathematics - 3 semester hours

History - 6 semester hours

Humanities - 3 semester hours

Literature - 3 semester hours

All literature courses require successful completion of EN101 / ENGL101 - Proficiency in Writing or EN102 / ENGL102 - Effectiveness in Writing


Political Science - 3 semester hours


Core Requirements (15 semester hours)

Elective Requirements (6 semester hours)
Students must complete 6 semester hours comprised of lower (100-200) level courses not taken to fulfill the requirements listed above. Additional general education courses may be taken to fulfill elective requirements.
