Developmental Study

The University System offers developmental courses in the areas of English (EN 098 - English as a Second Language and EN 099 - Principles of Composition) and Math (MA099 - Basic Concepts of College Mathematics) for students who need work on their foundational academic skills or feel they would benefit from a refresher course.

While these courses cannot be applied towards the General Education requirement, students may find that these courses will provide them with the skills to successfully complete advanced courses requiring fundamental math or writing skills.  Academic credit is earned for completion of MA099, EN098, and EN099; however, these credits do not count toward degree requirements.  Note: Upon the recommendation of two faculty members or the RQ295 professor, students experiencing difficulty with the successful completion of courses in their degree path may be required to take these developmental courses.

In addition to developmental courses, APUS offers tutoring services through its Online Library.  Information Literacy skills are stressed through a number of presentations and online tutorials. Students also have access to 10 hours of free, individualized sessions per year through a license with Smarthinking. Support is thus available in the following subjects: math (basic math through advanced calculus), science (biology, chemistry, and physics), accounting, statistics, economics, Spanish, writing, grammar, and more. Additional information and access are located in the Tutorial Center column on the main Information Commons page of the Online Library.  Questions can also be directed to:   librarian@apus.edu.
