Graduate Transfer Credit Transfer credit is limited to 15 credit hours of graduate-level credit towards a master’s degree. Transfer credit is accepted from: Military training should be documented on an official military transcript such as AARTS, SMARTS, CGI or CCAF Credits may also come from a prior graduate degree earned within the University System. A maximum of 9 credit hours from all sources may be applied to core and major courses. Actual credit awarded will depend on the nature of the credit hours submitted and the curriculum requirements of the selected major. Transfer credit must be applied against each major’s course requirements (core, major, and electives) to ensure that graduates meet the intent of the program objectives. As an example, an Air Force student who has completed the Resident Squadron Officer School (SOS) and Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) who elects to major in Civil War Studies will not be able to apply the full 15 credit hours of transfer credit towards the degree. At best, they would be awarded 9 credit hours of electives since the SOS and ACSC curriculum do not directly apply to Civil War Studies. These same courses applied to another major, such as Air Warfare, may result in more transfer credit awarded against core and major courses, as well as electives. An online area dedicated to Transfer Credit Evaluation instruction is available to help students assemble the materials they need to get credit for previous accomplishments. Students need to submit the online TRANSFER CREDIT APPLICATION and supply any other supporting documentation. Official copies of all transcripts, to include military schools, must be forwarded before credit can be awarded and entered into the student record. The transfer credit evaluator assesses the documentation once all documents have arrived and emails the students the results. Students should apply for transfer credit at the time of admission. When to Apply for Transfer Credit
Students should apply for transfer credit at the same time that they apply for admission or at the time they register for the first course. It is in the students’ best interest to apply as soon as possible in order to plan an academic program. Once all official transcripts or other documentation from the previous institutions are received, transfer credit will be evaluated, posted to the student record and students will be notified. All transfer credit requests must be processed no later than 60 days prior to the students’ degree conferral date.
